The Story

Bridges was a band consisting of four Norwegian musicians. The members were Pal Waaktaar, Magne Furuholmen, Viggo Bondi and Oeystein Jevanord. All four joined to form Bridges around 1977.

Previously, Pal and Magne had been in bands such as Spider Empire, Black Day and Black Sapphire since they were 10-12 years old. Bridges turned out to be their most serious band, and the quartet managed to record, compose and release their first album. The album was titled "Fakkeltog", which translates to "Torchlight Procession". A lot of self promotion and hard work among the members resulted in 600 out of the 1000 albums being sold. Bridges went on to give their first concert at a club called Chateau Neuf in Oslo, on May 27th, 1977. They were not happy with their performance, during which they had some technical problems. They moved on however, and in fact put in a lot of work towards a second album.

After finishing the demos for the second album, things changed a bit, when a lot of their equipment was stolen, and during that time things went cold as the members slowly grew apart. The album was set aside, and Pal and Magne went on to purchase new instruments and started recording on their own. Their work together was quite different than with Bridges, and a song they recorded was titled "All the planes come in on the quiet". It was a very electric production, which had both members on synth guitar and keyboards. Around the same time, a romantic postpunk movement was taking place in London, and as Magne worked for the Hoevikodden's Art Center (Oslo) as a security guard, he knew all of his earnings would go towards financing a trip to London. It was the Summer of 1981, and although they had recovered their stolen Bridges equipment, and recorded a second album under the name "Poem" with the album cover designed by Magne, things were different, as both Pal and Magne had their sights set on London. Viggo and Oeystein did not have the same hunger for success. Bridges played together for the last time.

In November of 1982, Paal and Magne along with 10,000 krones, a lot of self confidence, and a dream, went to London. Bridges was no more.
