By Hege Lyngved Odinsen [Translated in tandem by Cindy Kandolf and Sabine Clement] Original ArticleWhen a-ha split up five years ago, they couldn't stand the sight of one another. Now the group is reuniting. Next year a new album will come, and a world tour is planned for 2000. "The new album can be the biggest thing a-ha has ever done," says Magne Furuholmen, after it was announced that a-ha will be coming back. 11 December a-ha will participate in a star-studded Nobel concert in Oslo Spektrum. The request to perform there made Norwway's biggest pop group realize that they wanted to come together again. NEW POMPOUS SONG A-ha will be performing two songs during the Nobel prize ceremony. One song is completely new and is called "Summer Move Down".[sic.] The lyrics and music are by Paul Waaktaar Savoy, and is according to the composer himself a rich pop song with orchestra accompaniment. SEVERAL NEW SONGS Paul Waaktaar Savoy has also confirmed that a-ha has written several new songs for their upcoming album. He says there will be no dramatic change in style, a-ha will still be playing pop music. Morten Harket adds that it will probably sound a little more adult, although people will still recognize the a-ha sound. "Is it Paul Waaktaar Savoy who will do most of the writing of music and lyrics for the new album?" "Not only," says Paul. "Morten Harket has become very interested in songwriting, so that both Morten and I will be responsible for lyrics and music on the new album." LIKE BEFORE At the exclusive press conference at Frognerseteren in Oslo today, the three boys were extremely upbeat and happy about the reunion. There wasn't such a great difference to be seen from fifteen years ago. Morten Harket has laid the leather bracelets aside, but the haircut and the biceps were of the same standard as in his younger days. THE SPLIT When a-ha split up five years ago, after the album Memorial Beach, they were bitter enemies. Paul Waaktaar Savoy and Magne Furuholmen felt they had ended up in Morten Harket's shadow. "I believe that the band members have grown up quite a bit. I have a very good feeling about this, that it will go fine," Morten Harket tells VG Nett. "The way I see it, a-ha has much more potential now than before," Magne Furuholmen believes. He has used the break from a-ha to be a graphic artist, sculptor and to write film music. "Who is the Viagra pill, there?" "Brian Lane, our new manager," the curlyhead responds at once. "He entered and put right what had gone wrong. Now everyone in the band is very enthusiastic about going on," Magne says. WORLD TOUR a-ha plans to tour the world after they release their new album. "We plan the tour to take off in the year 2000, but we are not sure yet about the exact travel route;" Morten Harket says. "In any case, we are really looking forward to hit the USA, and Great Britain, Germany and France will also be there, " a happy Morten Harket says.
